WANTED – Trustees to join the management committee. We have a number of outgoing parent trustees who need to be replaced including vacant officer roles including that of secretary. The trustee role is open to parents, grandparents and members of the community who would like to make a positive impact to how we run our setting. ps it’s actually quite fun……
There are lots of ways for existing parents to get involved with Pre-School life.
A Two Way Process
By far the best way for parents to get involved is to join in the dialogue about your child. We have displays and newsletters giving parents lots of information about what is going on at our setting. We ask parents to regularly provide us with updates on their child’s interests and achievements. We hold parent interviews and there is opportunity to speak to staff every day to learn how your child has been.
Helping Out In-Session
Many parents choose to sign up to help at least one session per half term. In a typical session our parent help may help with crafts, reading, helping children choose activities, helping children at snack time, tidying up and providing general support to the team.
“Although I wasn’t able to help out on a regular basis, the occasions I did come in were really interesting. It was so nice to actually see what Isaac had been up to all morning, it helped me make sense of the things he told me about at home”
Michaela, Mum to Isaac and Evie
Joining The Board Of Trustees
As a charity, Pre-School is managed by a board of trustees made up mainly of parents. Their role is to ensure that Pre-School meets all its statutory obligations such as those set by OFSTED and the Charities Commission. They also have responsibility for managing the finances, HR, marketing, fundraising and setting the overall strategy for Pre-School.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time as Secretary to the Pre-School Board of Trustees. It’s given me a real sense of satisfaction doing something work related and being able to support Pre-School. As someone who works from home I have appreciated being able to deal with a wide range of people and I’ve met lots of other Mums”
Katherine , Mum to Daniel and trustee
Fundraising and other roles
We have a regular programme of fundraising events throughout the year including regular bake sales. There are lots of opportunities to help out either leading on projects, helping out on the day, or just coming along to enjoy our fundraising events. Other areas where parents can lend a hand include website maintenance, producing newsletters and other communications or lending any other skills and enthusiasm to our wonderful setting.
